I can’t believe it, but summer is soon coming to an end. Yes, it’s that time again. We are in the last days of summer.
The last day of summer is September 22.
When I lived in Nebraska apart of me cried, because I knew the cold winter was coming. But I was also a little happy because my favorite season in Nebraska is the fall. It is so beautiful.
The scenery is gorgeous with all of the trees and plants change into fall shades of orange and yellow.
But before we get there, try out some of these activities with the kiddos these last few days of summer.

Have a picnic in the park
Now that we are approaching the fall, the heat is starting to let up having a picnic will be more enjoyable. Don’t forget to load up your picnic basket or tote and the blanket. The kids can bring a few toys and a book to have a little fun after eating.
Go to a local farm and pick fruit
Before having kids this was something that I enjoyed doing with my husband. Now that the little guys are older this is something that they will enjoy. In Florida, there are many fruits and vegetables that are harvested year around. If you can’t find a local farmer, check out the next farmers market.
Bake some cupcakes
I am no Pioneer Woman, but I am pretty good at following the directions on the box. I usually let the little guy pick out what flavor cupcakes he wants. Then he helps me make them and decorates them with lots of sprinkles.
Take your child on a special date with you
You can keep this really budget friendly if you go to a fast food restaurant that has an indoor playground like Chick fil a, McDonald’s or Burger King. You can get ice cream and let your little one play and they will have a blast.
Have a water fight with water balloons
With the cold weather approaching, get the last water balloon fight in.
Have a barbecue
Nothing says summer more than a fired up grill. Get some hamburgers, hot dogs, and kabobs and enjoy!
Enjoy a movie outdoors.
There are places that have outdoor movies that you can attend. Or you can have one at your house. With technology becoming more affordable, you can get a projector or an outdoor movie kit to enjoy for years to come.

Go to the beach or pool one more time.
If you are near a beach, this is the perfect time to visit before the weather changes. While you are there, don’t forget to build a sand castle! If there is not a beach nearby, go to the local pool and enjoy the water before it starts getting cold.

If you have a local amusement park or fun center with outdoor activities like miniature golf and go-carts, now is the time to go and have some last minute fun outdoors.
Find a place to watch the sunset
Watching the sunset is beautiful and relaxing. Find a place to watch the sunset and enjoy the warm weather during these last days of summer.
Play in the sprinkler
Playing in the sprinkler is one of my favorites as a kid! You can find sprinklers for as low as $10 and it will provide fun and water for the grass next spring.
Go to your local farmers market
Harvest time is soon going to be over. Now is a great time to check out your local farmers market and get some tasty, fresh fruits and vegetables.
Blowing bubbles is a fun and cheap activity to do during the summer. This is one of those simple activities that kids love and make for great pictures.
Check out the constellations one night
Another calming activity to enjoy outdoors is looking at the stars. This can be hard if you live in a big city and there are lost of lights. If you can find an area that doesn’t have many lights, you can check out the stars and find some of the summer constellations.
Go to a park you haven’t visited before
Going to a new park will add some adventure and give the kids something new to try. If you are in the Beaufort, South Carolina, make sure you check out the waterfront playground that is covered for those really hot days.
Clean out unused toys and donate them
Now is a good time to go through the kid’s toys and take out the ones they are no longer using. You can donate the unused toys to create space and make room for new toys.
Go to a family-friendly concert
During this time you can find some family-friendly concerts. This is the perfect time to enjoy an outdoor concert while the weather is warm and comfortable.
Play with sidewalk chalk in the driveway
Sidewalk chalk is another one of my favorites. My little guys can play for a while with sidewalk chalk. The best part is you can wash it all away when their done.
This is a great time to take pictures of the kids to post on social media and have to print for around the house.
Enjoy fresh fruit before it goes out of season
Don’t forget to enjoy fresh fruit before it goes out of season. You can get these at your local grocery store or farmers market.
Have the kids go bug hunting or collect leaves
If you are lucky enough to live in an area with fireflies, you can have the kids catch them during the last days of summer. If not, make it a game to collect leaves.
Put together pictures of all of your summer memories and moments
When you are all done enjoying the last days of summer, put together your memories and moments online or printed.
One of my favorite and easiest ways to print photos from my phone is with Shutterfly.
Let me know in the comments what you do during the last days of summer.
