Life moves fast. One minute you’re changing diapers, the next your kids are outgrowing their shoes (again).
It’s easy to get caught in the routine of doing, rushing, and checking off tasks—but what if you could slow down and be more present?
I’m diving into a conversation with Monica, a mom, entrepreneur, and creator of mother-and-child retreats, about how to shift from autopilot to intentional motherhood.
If you’ve ever felt like you’re just surviving motherhood instead of experiencing it, this is for you.

What Does Intentional Motherhood Really Mean?
“Intentional” is one of those words that gets thrown around a lot, but at its core, it means living with purpose and making conscious choices instead of going through the motions.
For Monica, intentional motherhood is about:
- Making decisions that align with your values, not just what society or social media tells you to do
- Carving out space for real presence in your daily life
- Breaking free from autopilot and choosing connection over just “getting through the day”
This doesn’t mean you need to quit your job, overhaul your routines, or suddenly find two extra hours in your day.
Instead, it’s about small, meaningful shifts that bring more awareness, joy, and connection into your motherhood journey.
How to Be More Intentional in Motherhood (Even When Life is Busy)
1. Start Small – Put Distractions Aside
Monica encourages moms to begin with something as simple as putting away distractions for just 5-10 minutes a day.
That means:
- Putting your phone on silent
- Turning off the TV and background noise
- Letting go of the mental to-do list for a few moments
This short pocket of time allows you to fully see your child, engage with them, and appreciate the present moment.
Even if you’re in a tough season—whether it’s work stress, caring for a sick parent, or struggling with a chronic illness—these small intentional moments can ground you and bring more meaning to your day.
2. Get Outside & Let Nature Reset You
One of Monica’s favorite ways to stay present is spending time outside—even in simple ways.
Ideas to try:
- Take a short walk with your kids and collect leaves or rocks
- Watch the sunrise together with no distractions
- Have an evening bonfire or just sit outside and listen to nature
Nature has a way of slowing us down and helping us reconnect—not just with our kids, but with ourselves.
Plus, when you’re out of the house, you’re less tempted to start tidying up or checking your phone.
3. Be Flexible & Give Yourself Grace
Let’s be honest—some seasons of motherhood are harder than others.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, asking for help and carving out small intentional moments can be even more important.
Monica reminds us that:
- You don’t need to be perfect to be present.
- Motherhood isn’t about doing more—it’s about doing what matters.
- Giving yourself grace in the hard moments allows you to show up better for yourself and your kids.
You are already doing enough. Sometimes, slowing down is the most productive thing you can do.
Bringing Intentional Living into Your Home (Even if a Retreat Isn’t an Option)
Monica hosts mother-and-child retreats that create space for moms to recharge, connect, and reset away from daily distractions. These retreats focus on:
- Mindful parenting practices
- Nourishing, whole foods that support energy and clarity
- Nature-based activities that foster creativity and connection
- Holistic self-care for moms who need time to reset
But if an in-person retreat isn’t possible for you, don’t worry—you can still create this kind of intentional living at home.
That’s why Monica is hosting the Intentional Living for Mothers Audio Event from February 3-7—a virtual experience featuring 30+ experts on motherhood, parenting, self-care, and personal growth.
This event is designed for moms who want to feel more aligned, present, and intentional but need a practical way to do it from home.
You’ll hear from parenting experts, health professionals, and real moms who share authentic, practical advice (not just Instagram-perfect theories).
If you’re craving more balance, peace, and fulfillment in motherhood, this is a must-attend event.

A Reminder to Slow Down
At the end of the episode, I asked Monica for one thing moms should remember about being intentional in motherhood.
Her answer? Start small.
Even if all you do today is put down your phone for 5 minutes, make eye contact with your child, and truly see them, that is enough.
That’s a step toward intentionality.
Presence over perfection, my friend. You’re already doing an amazing job.
If you’re ready to take this work deeper, make sure to check out the Intentional Living for Mothers Audio Event and start making small shifts toward the motherhood experience you truly want.
