Raise your hand if you’re struggling to get everything done in the day? Or maybe you are feeling frazzled and are always looking forward to Friday?
If this is you, it’s time to look at how you spend your time. And start time blocking.
Time blocking is scheduled flexibility. Which means you have a plan for how you will use your time.
Instead of choosing to be reactive and feel defeated because you haven’t gotten anything done at the end of the day, you can be proactive with time bocking.
In this episode, my guest, Stefanie Gass, shares the magic of time blocking and how to make it work for your home and business.

Time blocking is an amazing planner system that helps you to get proactive with time.
But don’t use fancy calendars or apps on your phone.
All of those things bring you back to the number one distraction … your phone!
Your phone is a distraction from what actually matters. Even though social media is the last on our priority list, we allow it to creep up and be the number one time suck.
Shift to a paper planner so that you can get off of your phone. If you don’t know which planner to start with, try the Tools for Wisdom Planner that Stefanie highly recommends.
Time blocking tips to get started
Start by planning your month with scheduled events. This includes things like birthday parties, doctor’s appointments, and quarterly meetings.
Take those events and plug in them in your weekly planner.
After that, you pop in different categories of your week that you consider a priority in your life. For example, some of those categories could be time with God, time with kids, time with the hubby.
Block out time for each of those categories.
The next thing is time scheduled events like pick up and drops off at school, dentist appointments, and client meetings. Make sure to put in all of those times in your weekly calendar.
Finally, plug in time for your business. These are open time slots to run your business.
For me, those time slots could be recording a podcast or writing blog posts.
Now your week is time blocked for you to get what is a priority done.
Time blocking tips when you work from home
When working from home, it is important to guard your time and have boundaries.
Start by brain dumping everything you need to do to run your business, get work done, or get things done in your home.
Then categorize tasks into daily, weekly, and monthly tasks. Know all of the things you do and how long it takes to get these tasks done.
Once you have done this, you can block time to do a similar task together. For instance, blocking time to make phone calls for an hour.
Make sure to include booking doctor appointments for the kids, calling about a return for a product you just purchased, and checking in with your grandmother all within the scheduled time block.
Give time blocking a try and let me know what you think in the comments below.
